Managing the Online Classroom: Plagiarism Detection and Prevention

Image
Managing the Online Classroom: Plagiarism Detection and Prevention   Online learning facilitators have to manage their digital classrooms effectively. Developing a routine to maintain organization and motivation is equally important as using strategies to set and share clear academic integrity policies from the beginning, which will later make detecting and preventing plagiarism easier. After all, the act of plagiarism is not going anywhere.  Three factors to consider when managing an online classroom to help with plagiarism detection and prevention:  Plagiarism Detection Software One way to ensure the originality and authenticity of each student’s submitted work is to use a plagiarism detection tool. While many may argue that if an instructor spends enough time teaching the content and educating their learners about copyright, fair use, paraphrasing, and citing sources correctly, then plagiarism will not occur (Walden, n.d). This is simply no...

The Impact of Technology and Multimedia

Image
The Impact of Technology and Multimedia The era of online learning has become essential to so many parts of people’s lives. It is almost impossible not to come across some form of digital learning space. Instructors are faced with fostering online education to suit many different needs at a revolutionary and rapid pace.   What impact does technology and multimedia have on online learning environments? As instructors, we must level up our teaching strategies so that all generations of learners can have the best possible experience with online learning. Learners are more likely to regularly engage with technology and multimedia in their daily lives. Therefore, the role of technology and multimedia in an online learning environment must be impactful and accessible to its users. The appropriate use of technology and multimedia have been effectively utilized in learning, and their benefits for classroom learning are well documented. Technology and multimedia go hand in hand when ...

Aspects to Consider for Online Instruction

Image
Aspects to Consider for Online Instruction When instructional designers prepare and collaborate with instructors and sometimes System Matter Experts (SME), they must consider the technology available to the learners. When building a course for online learning, technology plays a vital role in how everyone will communicate their interests, learning, and understanding of the course material. Sticking to an intuitive layout that the facilitator and students can easily navigate to communicate is vital so that all involved do not feel frustrated and disconnected. Dr. Richard Mayer advocates that an efficient and effective instructional designer understands that technology should adapt to how people learn rather than people adapting to technology (Walden, n.d).  Creating a space to learn about your students and their abilities to access and navigate the technologies required for the course is an excellent first step in setting up an online learning environment (Walden, n.d).  ...

Online Learning Communities: Social Presence is Important

Image
Online Learning Communities: Social Presence is Important T o be an effective instructor in an online learning environment, I have learned that when navigating the complex world of distance education, one must develop a sense of connection and community with all participants. As knowledge and information are shared, establishing a clear and prominent professional presence that offers security and belonging is essential.  How do online learning communities significantly impact both student learning and satisfaction within online courses? When one considers the benefits of having an online learning community, one inevitably thinks about how the learners will construct meaning from a course, not just from the required resources but also from one another. Learners get to engage with others from around the world of various demographics. This makes learning more exciting and takes some of the burden off the instructor to “know it all” per se’. Online learning communities create a dynamic...

Scope Creep is Inevitable

Image
Scope Creep is Inevitable     Scope creep in project management is continuous or uncontrolled growth in a project’s scope at any point after the project begins (Wrike.com, n.d). Managing a project’s capacity can be difficult. An inexperienced project manager can feel overwhelmed quickly if they are not adequately prepared to handle scoop creep. With experience, a plan, and a supportive team of stakeholders, scoop creep can be managed by controlling things in scope with a change control process.   Background I was working at a school that was preparing for school picture day. It consisted of all students and staff getting a headshot and group pictures that would later be used in the school’s yearbook. Students were allowed to purchase pre-ordered sets of photos before the day of picture taking. Pre-ordering picture packages would allow the project manager to schedule the lineup of students who needed prints from students who did not. All photos were to be ...

Resources for Planning an ID Project Schedule

Image
Resources for Planning an ID Project Schedule Project management can quickly get overwhelming. Luckily for us, working in the 21st century means we have unlimited access to websites, blogs, and online videos to help walk us through the rough paths of project management. By utilizing these ready-to-use resources, a project manager can make a more informed decision on tasks such as budget and scheduling. According to NiƱo et al. (2015), sharing lessons learned and knowledge management allows a project manager the flexibility to practice, reflect, and formalize plans before sharing them with their stakeholders with less risk of failure. The Digital Project Manager website blog offers its project manager viewers articles on managing teams, selecting the right tools, and training. The best part of this website is that it has a podcast. Podcasts allow the busy professional to gain knowledge and, at times, be entertained while on the go privately at any time (Goldman, 2018). Wearing headphon...

Face-to-Face Wins the Case

Image
Face-to-Face Wins the Case A critical soft skill for project managers to master is communicating effectively. According to Jena and Satpathy (2017), soft skill reflects a person’s relationship with other people through his character traits and interpersonal skills. A project manager has the sole responsibility to manage a project effectively. Therefore, managing people is one of the requirements a project manager must attend to for a project to be successful.  This week's assignment taught us to view the multimedia program “The Art of Effective Communication.” In the program, I observed a piece of communication in three different modalities: written text, audio, and video to represent face-to-face communication (Walden, n.d). Here is a brief synopsis of each modality.  Written Text /Email In most businesses, day-to-day communication happens often enough by the use of email. The purpose of an email message for business use should be to express an individual’s needs, requi...
